Amongst all the exhibition preparations I've been planning for another favourite event that's in a few months - the start of spinning season and then Tour de Fleece! I do fibre prep in the warmer months when it's too hot to hold wool in my hands for hours. Here's what I've been up to.

I've been contemplating this project and acquiring fibre bits for some time. Here is an entire Sari alpaca cria fleece that I've combed, plus about 500g of wool (I think Corriedale or Polwarth, I bought it second hand and unlabelled) and some eri silk (which is a natural copper colour. I plan to comb all of this together to make a blend and then spin.

First step is maths (yay). I weighed all the fibre bits and worked out how many batches of around 100g I'II need to break it into to comb it effectively. 10 apparently (but also because it's easy maths).

Then it's a case of weighing, sorting and bagging. But now I'm looking at all this fibre it's a bit... dull. It needs some life. Time to add what Jane Stafford calls a zinger - a dash of vibrant colour. Let's see what options do I have.

Time to shop the stash! One of my favourite activities. I find 3 possible options.

The first one is a bit too dull and similar to the natural fibre.

The purple is okay, but not quite it and it's also Merino so the fibre length a bit short to comb nicely with the longer Sari, silk and Corriedale.

But this bright teal and purple? *chef's kiss*

I've divided it up along with the rest of the fibre, ready to be combed. I think the final effect will be like copper that's starting to corrode, red/gold with streaks of teal and purple.

Looking forward to playing with this fluff again! But this is also the first year I haven't really stopped spinning our summer, because I've been spindling at home and at spinners and Weavers I've slowly been plying this purple Gotland fleece.

And at work I sometimes spin on this alpaca/camel blend during my lunch break.

Still, I'm itching to get my wheels out. Soon!

SOON.

Pretty fleeces! I look forward to seeing the final yarn. Have fun with Tour de Fleece! I know it's a pretty big deal on Ravelry; I expect to see some Nerdopolis folks entering yarn they spun during it.

I sometimes hand write posts on a TCL NXTPAPER tablet that uses an AI Large Language Model (LLM) to convert my handwriting to text.

I do not intentionally use generative AI in anything that I make but note that I use apps (Microsoft Office, Canva, etc) that have integrated AI. These may have hidden AI 'features' operating in the background or offer assets that may be AI generated and not labelled as such.

To the best of my knowledge any content made by other people that I use or link to does not use generative AI.
