I first designed the weave for this cowl back in March.

I had a bit of a hiccup with the weaving. Before I started I back in Marchrealised I was going to run out of weft. But I reconised the problem early and decided to weave one pick of another yarn (a plain black with sparkle) between every 2 picks of black and blue sock yarn. Sorted.

Or so I thought. As I was weaving, and watching the sock yarn disappear off the shuttle, I got the impression that even with the added black sparkle yarn I was still going to run out. So I stopped weaving to do some measurements and more math and yep, I was definitely going to run out.

So I problem solved some more. I wove 25 inches of one pick black sparkle/2 picks black and blue, then 20 inches of just black sparkle, then 25 inches of sparkle/black and blue again.

And I just made it.

This is all that was left of the black and blue sock yarn! Just a smidge.

So it all worked out in the end. After taking the warp and weaving back through itself to make the V (check out the original pattern for more info) I twisted the fringe and gave the cowl a nice bath.

I'm really chuffed with how cloesly the woven fabric matches my initial design, even with the last minute changes.

In the photo you can't really see where the black sparkle weft is used in between the black/blue yarn, it all just kinda blends together. But you can see the middle section where there's just the black sparkle weft. The blue criss crosses turn into blue lines running the length of the scarf. I like the effect, and when you double loop the cowl around your neck the extra sparkly section with blue lines will sit above the V, making a nice contrast.
