This morning I popped in to the ACT Textile Arts Association's exhibition, Hanging by a thread.

It was a wonderful exhibition full of intriguing and inventive pieces. Here's some of my favourites.

This sashiko-inspired handmade tutu by Alina Murray was just amazing. Loved the colours and how neat and precise everything was. The origami style tutu was perfection.

I liked the colours in this wool felted and embroidered landscape by Rae Roxby.

And this fabric painting and embroidery by Alyson Robinson made me smile.

These two fabric painted and embroidered pieces by Sue Chapman were inspired by her trip to Monet's Garden at Giverny.

A stunning display of native flowers, freemotion quilted on dissolvable fabric by Valerie Merritt.

But my favourite piece was this dyed silk scarf by Carolyn Elsworthy (Carrach Designs). She said she was inspired by peeling bark on gum trees after a storm. The beads on the end of the 3D elements are reminiscent of rain drops. Just stunning.

I almost bought this piece to hang in my craft room, but Carolyn had designed it so perfectly it really needed to be draped around a neck reach its full effect.

But I did take another of Carolyn's scarves home. This is a gorgeous handpainted wool scarf, but super light and drapey. I'm very happy with my purchase, and pleased to support other artists the same way people do when they buy my own work from exhibitions.
