More spinning
May. 7th, 2026 07:14 amI have been spinning most days, especially when it's sunny and the light pours in through the windows. I can feel my shoulders relax as I sit in the warmth and focus on the fibre in my hands.
I finished spinning the singles for the superwash Blue Faced Leicester (a breed of sheep) fibre and then plyed. It was lovely to watch the colours stack up on the bobbin.

Colour #1 and the very start of #2

Now the start of colour #3

Part-way through colour #4
I was worried the colours wouldn't play together nicely since I'd broken up the fibre this way, rather than let them all blend into each other the way the fibre had been dyed. But I needn't have worried, the finished skein is gorgeous.

'Vista' by Southern Cross Fibres
Superwash Blue Faced Leicester handspun 2-ply
16 wraps per inch (light fingering weight), 188g, 963m
I also spun one of the bi pride braids from my previous post and corespun it, as that was the next art yarn in Jacey Bogg's Spin Art book.

Corespinning is where you wrap fibre around an existing yarn, making a thick and squooshy yarn that really shows off all the fibre. It's a great way to show off a colourful fibre like this.
Also happy with how this skein turned out, though it's a little overspun. But maybe it's just an unplyed yarn acting like an unplyed yarn. Spinning singles like this is not my forte.

Pride collection - bisexual by The Fleece and Wheel
Wool/silk art batt
Corespun yarn
8 WPI (DK weight), 51g, 76m
Finally, I spun up some thick and thin (kinda, I'm not great at spinning inconsistently) yarn to make some spiral plyed yarn, another art yarn from Spin Art.

I've made spiral plyed yarn quite a few times before so this project was pretty chill. Except I'd bought this fibre and turned it into rolags, which I did not enjoy spinning from. I thought I didn't like spinning from rolags because I was making them badly, but I followed every single trick and guide to make these ones and I still didn't like spinning from them. But I got mad about it and then got over it. C'est la vie.
